LCB are really proud of our very own Jai Mehra, who was recently interviewed by Warwick District Council to feature in their Commonwealth Connections program! Jai has been boxing with us for almost four years and is a real inspiration. Even with no sight in one eye, he has never let it hold him back, overcoming every hurdle to become a brilliant fighter. Collaborating with British Blind Sport, Jai is a qualified England Boxing Coach, like many of our volunteers, passing on his skills and motivating younger members of Leamington Community Boxing.

Jai said:

Hi, my name is Jai Mehra, I’m 17 years old, from Warwickshire. I was born in Canada with a detachment to my eye which means that I have had no sight in my right eye since birth.

I am of Indian and Canadian heritage and moved to the UK when I was a year and a half old. I have been boxing with Leamington Community Boxing since 2018 and with the help of British Blind Sport, they were able to source funding for my coach who is able to teach someone who’s visually impaired like myself.

Despite having only partial sight I am now able to coach others too thanks to this support. Even though I have connections with India and Canada as well as England, I will be supporting the England team during the Commonwealth Games.
